Presented by The Folk Sessions
“Participation! It’s what all my work has been about.” – Pete Seeger
Pete Seeger has embodied the ideals of folk music – communication, entertainment, social comment, historical
continuity, inclusiveness. On Friday, May 3 rd , we will celebrate Pete Seeger’s 100 th Birthday and his incredible life in
song. The songs he has written, and those he has discovered and shared, have helped preserve our cultural heritage,
imprinting adults and children with the sounds, traditions and values of our global past and present. Many of the area’s
finest folk musicians will come together at the Center for Spiritual Living in Prescott for a concert where everyone is in
the band. Be prepared to sing! The Yavapai County Climate Change Coalition and organizations engaged in climate
change and Social Justice will have information tables in the CSL Hall. Doors open at 6pm and tickets are available online
at https://fslpeteseeger100.eventbrite.com
For nearly 70 years as a performer, Pete Seeger embodied the ideals of folk music – communication, entertainment,
social comment, historical continuity, inclusiveness. A fearless warrior for social justice and the environment, Pete’s
political activism – from the Civil Rights movement and anti-McCarthyism to resistance to fascism and the wars in
Vietnam and the Middle East – has become the template for subsequent generations of musicians and ordinary citizens
with something to say about the world. Performers, including With Strings Attached, Lisa Amore, Jo Berger, Meg
Bohrman and Tom Christa Agostino will be in hand to celebrate Pete’s 100 th Birthday and to lead the audience in songs
including “Turn, Turn, Turn”, “If I Had a Hammer”, “Somos el Barco”, “Muddy Water” and more.
The Folk Sessions may well be one of the most eclectic radio shows in America. Broadcast throughout Central &
Northern Arizona for over 16 years on the KJAZZ Radio Network and Prescott Public Radio, part of the Arizona
Community Radio Network. The Folk Sessions has established a loyal following, producing quality radio programs and
live concerts.
