Several thousand people viewed the creative and colorful Chalk It Up! Prescott event April 21-22 on the parking lot of the National Bank of Arizona on Montezuma Street.
The free event, open to all ages, had visitors as well as locals kneeling with cartons of chalk on the asphalt parking lot.
It was the 10th annual Chalk It Up! Prescott intergenerational event, said Susan Crutcher, event organizer. Funds raised through contributions and sponsorships went toward community mental health programs for the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic.
During its 10-year evolution, Chalk It Up! Prescott has grown from a small local function to what now is a popular weekend activity for both participants and observers. Virtually every square foot of the parking lot was marked into small or large squares, which then were filled with picturesque and vivid designs. Some were realistic; others totally fantasy. All were delightful to view.
Live musicians performed during the event.
Chalk artists from several Arizona cities and out of state were invited to participate.
