by Greg Mengarelli, Mayor, City of Prescott
Nothing symbolizes Prescott more than the holiday activities that occur in our great city this time of year. The annual Christmas parade and Courthouse lighting bring thousands of residents and visitors to our historic downtown to embrace the spirit of Christmas. These widely anticipated events kick off a festive and joyous time in our community. Although the occasional Grinch can be found in our fair city at Christmas time, they are few and far between. It is almost impossible to walk and shop in downtown Prescott during the holidays and not be infused with wonder and delight.
Our city’s calendar is filled with music and joy, and I encourage everyone to sample the many offerings this December. The Yavapai College Performing Arts Center offers six different must-see performances including “Let the Season Begin,” “Winter Holiday Special,” “Hot Sardines Holiday Stomp,” “Prescott POPS Symphony,” “White Christmas Musical,” and a fabulous, by satellite, performance of the Bolshoi Ballet’s, “The Nutcracker.”
The Elk’s Theatre and Performing Arts Center has its own fantastic lineup of shows that include “In the Christmas Mood,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Christmas with the Rat Pack,” “The Beach Boys Surfin’ Holiday,” and a showing of the film, “Polar Express.” And don’t forget Acker Night — that wonderful blend of downtown business and music that sets a tone of family fun. Acker Night is proof positive that music is alive and thriving in our community. The holiday season ends with the Whiskey Row Boot Drop on New Year’s Eve — even better than being in Times Square!
As you enjoy your Christmas activities, please remember to support our local businesses. I wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday Season, and a Healthy New Year. God bless Prescott.
