Books collected on campus and from throughout the greater Prescott area were donated to schools and libraries on the Navajo Nation.
Student and faculty members of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University-Prescott collected books during April and May.
Anne Boettcher, Ph.D. and chapter president, said chapter members and volunteers boxed and delivered several thousand books and other resources to the nation’s largest reservation.
They arranged with officials at the Navajo Nation that books would go to Tuba City and Window Rock, where they then would be distributed by tribal personnel to appropriate sites.
Items sent included:
Anything dealing with Native American topics.
- How-to books.
- Biographies.
- Fiction for all ages.
- Movies and DVDs.
It is the second year the honor society collected books. Last year, books were sent to a library in Mosul, Iraq that had been bombed.
