Household Hazardous Waste Collection Goes Curbside This Spring Citizens Will Call In February to Schedule March Pickup

The City of Prescott, Solid Waste Division is launching a new at-home collection of household hazardous waste.     The new program provides for scheduled, at your home pickup of items such as used motor oil, pesticides, cleaners and other hazardous materials. (see list below).  Residents who wish to receive this service must call to schedule a pickup.  This service is available to Prescott residents only.
The City will begin taking calls for this service on February 5, 2018.  The collection will take place from March 5, 2018 through March 23, 2018.  There will be no drop off at the Transfer Station.  To schedule a pick up at your home, please follow the steps below.   
Step 1:  
Complete the HHW Home Collection request form online through the Transfer Station webpage and let us know what type of waste you wish to have picked up from your home. You can also request an HHW Collection appointment by calling 928-777-1116.
Or, go online to www.prescott-az.gov, click on SERVICES AND SAFETY.
Step 2:  
You will receive a confirmation email or phone call from the City with your appointment collection date. We have limited the number of appointments per event, if you need to reschedule your appointment please call 928-777-1116 at least 24 hours before your collection date.
Step 3:  
Set your items near your carport or garage for collection by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. All containers must be properly labeled, sealed and placed outside by your carport or garage.
DO NOT PLACE HAZARDOUS WASTE MATERIAL BY THE SIDE WALK OR CURBSIDE.
Acceptable items include:  
Acids, antifreeze, appliances, batteries, car batteries, gasoline (5 gallon limit), cleaners, electronics, fluorescents, Freon, fuel tanks, oil based paint (5 gallon limit), latex paint (20 gallon limit), paint remover, paint thinner, pesticides, smoke detectors, tires, and used oil (5 gallon limit).
Items that will not be collected:
Prescription drugs, ammunition, asbestos, commercial (business) waste, commercial vehicle tires (tractors, tractor trailer, and heavy equipment), explosives, fireworks, home-generated medical waste, household garbage, items in plastic trash bags, radioactive waste, or any other material or items not included from the “Acceptable item” list above.
