LONG VIEW OF GIVING: Dorn Homes Builds Charity Framework

Charitable contribution has long been a tradition at Dorn Homes. Whether it’s helping build a mortgage-free home for a wounded veteran, supporting families with the Stepping Stones agency or contributing to local charities, Dorn Homes has a history of working to improve the communities in which they build.
With the announcement of DornCares, Dorn Homes has invited members of those same communities to join them in supporting the most vulnerable among us. By fostering participation from community members, Dorn Homes is emphasizing something called “sustainable good.” Rather than simply making one-time financial contributions to area charities, DornCares helps build a framework that connects donors, volunteers, and those in need. This network of community members can do more good as a whole than any could do individually while still targeting the area’s most pressing needs.
Building communities, and making existing communities stronger, has long been at the core of Dorn Homes. So much so, that it inspires their mission statement: “To improve the lives of all those we touch.” DornCares brings together all of Dorn Homes’ charitable efforts and resources to better allow the organization to positively affect the community and the causes closest to the hearts of community members.
DornCares is a way to connect community members with organizations in need of volunteers and financial assistance. It is guided by the community itself and highlights local organizations. The homeowners and the organization present in the community will chart the course of these charitable efforts through large-scale volunteer events and financial contributions from the sale of each home.
DornCares allows homebuyers to direct contributions to Stepping Stones, Coalition for Compassion and Justice, and the United States Veterans Initiative. These three organizations have been selected because they all help support a common goal, which is ending homelessness in the Quad Cities by 2020. For DornCares, this means providing a bed for everyone who wants or needs one.
Jim Gunby, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Dorn Homes, has long believed in doing “sustainable good” by making contributions that allow charitable organizations to thrive on an ongoing basis.
“DornCares is a way for us to let the community guide the charitable work that Dorn Homes does,” Gunby said. “We have always emphasized contributing to the communities we build in.”
He added, “In fact, it’s our mission statement. Our goal with DornCares is to focus our charitable efforts on the areas of the community where it will do the most good. Building homes is what we do. Helping others is who we are.”
For community members looking for more information about volunteering, contributing or working with DornCares, visit dornhomes.com/dorncares. For more information about the homes they build and the communities they build in, visit dornhomes.com.

DornCares strives to:

  • Connect those in need with those who can help.
  • Address the community’s most pressing needs.
  • Raise awareness in the community and funds from the sale of each home.
  • Enable charities to focus on helping others rather than fundraising.
  • Strengthen the community and support the vulnerable among us.
