OBESITY A MAJOR FACTOR IN DEVELOPMENT OF PREDIABETES

Medically Supervised Weight Stabilization Could Reduce New Diabetes Cases

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in three Americans is prediabetic, and most are not even aware of their condition.
“Physicians are seeing more and more patients with excess weight – a potential precursor to type 2 diabetes,” says Dr. Douglas W. Rothrock, a Prescott cardiologist and Chief Medical Adviser for Ideal Protein, a protocol for weight loss and healthy living.
“Prediabetic” means that an individual has high readings for blood sugar, but not high enough to be officially categorized as actually having type 2 diabetes.
“Prevention is a much better option than treating the disease after it develops,” says Dr. Thomas C. Blevins, an endocrinologist, diabetes expert and founder of Texas Diabetes and Endocrinology. “With the right choices, those who are at risk of developing diabetes can potentially keep the disease at bay and live an overall healthier life.”
In addition to potentially serious complications, people with diabetes incur more health-care costs. On average, according to the American Diabetes Association, people diagnosed with diabetes have medical expenditures approximately 2.3 times higher than what their expenditures would be if they did not have diabetes.
To help patients effectively manage their weight and, as a result, prevent or lessen the health complications from diabetes, many providers are turning to the Ideal Protein Protocol, a medically designed and developed protocol that is consistent with evidence-based guidelines for long-term weight loss management.
The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Protocol is a medically developed four-phase protocol containing two key components – weight loss and healthier lifestyle education. The protocol is offered by health-care practitioners and their staff to help patients reach their weight loss goal and learn healthy behaviors to maintain their weight loss in the future.
“For a long time, other than the option of surgery, we could only tell our patients to eat less and exercise more to lose weight,” says Dr. Timothy N. Logemann, FACC, a cardiologist in Wausau, Wisconsin. “Now, we can offer them an effective, nutritionally sound protocol that works.” For more information on Ideal Protein, visit IdealProtein.com. The protocol is available through licensed health-care providers, trained clinics and coaches. For more information, visit http://letsgethealthy4you.com.

Nancy Rothrock and Dr. Douglas Rothrock, co-owners and co-founders, Let’s Get Healthy 4 You

Nancy Rothrock and her husband Dr. Douglas Rothrock are the co-owners and co-founders of Let’s Get Healthy 4 You. Nancy is a Certified Weight Loss Consultant and has a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing. She has also completed 51 credit hours toward a nursing degree. Nancy worked in the hospital setting for 27 years, where she assisted physicians in acute care. Seventeen of those 27 years, she spent working for Medtronic, where she cared for patients with pacemakers and defibrillators and worked with physicians implanting these devices. Nancy also serves on the board of Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Here is Nancy’s weight loss story:
“My husband was 100 pounds overweight and faced with pre-diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. He was told by his doctor he needed to do something or face a shorter life expectancy. This is where I swung into action. I had heard of a program called Ideal Protein, so I made our first consultation appointments and got us started together in an effort to help my husband.
I, at the time, did not think I was overweight, but I was. I lost 48 pounds on the program, and I no longer have to take my blood pressure medications. I cannot believe how much better I feel and the renewed energy I have now. I would never have guessed I could be at my high school weight again.
We were so impressed with our results (both weight loss and improved health) that I started a small clinic in my husband’s cardiology office to help him help his patients. The success has been overwhelming! We have helped over 2,500 patients lose weight and have taught them how they can maintain their results. I look forward every day to coming to a place where I can help patients just like myself, leading them to better lifestyle habits and giving them back their youth.”
