In addition to the Magnificant, the program will feature Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn BWV Anh.159, one of Bach’s most famous motets for double chorus. Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat, BWV 243, composed in 1723, is a musical setting of the biblical canticle Magnificat. It is scored for five vocal parts (two sopranos, alto, tenor and bass), and a Baroque orchestra including trumpets and timpani. It is the first major liturgical composition on a Latin text by Bach. It is one of Bach’s most popular vocal works.
As one of the musical organizations collaborating with the Arizona Philharmonic Orchestra in their debut season, Prescott Chorale is excited to share its October performance with this outstanding addition to our local music world. The AZ Philharmonic will be playing Bach’s Brandenberg Concerto #1, noted for its celebratory style and dance-like movements.
The Prescott Chorale is also pleased to welcome five talented young performers who will: Michael Fausto, Tenor; Mary Kray, Mezzo-soprano; Melanie McCally, Alto; Talen Swan, Bass and Mariana Velasco, Soprano, a past recipient of a Prescott Chorale Young Artist Scholarship on 2017.
