Yavapai College Performing Arts Center has whatever it takes to conjure your holiday spirit
by Michael Grady
Some of us go on automatic in December. We watch “Charlie Brown” through an eggnog haze, waiting for Linus to tell us what it’s all about. But YCPAC wants to rekindle your holiday spirit, and they’re offering four different events to help you do just that:
Let the Season Begin! Shake off your Black Friday trauma with this joyous, family-friendly embrace of the holidays. Acclaimed soprano Carmen Cancél and YC’s impressive choirs lend their soaring voices to the carols that set your childhood aglow. Add luminaria and cookies in YC’s sculpture garden, and Let the Season Begin! becomes the perfect elixir for the season. Friday, Dec. 1, 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $15 adults/$10 youth.
The Hot Sardines Holiday Stomp Think: Christmas with chaser of cool. The Hot Sardines, a bouncy, brassy, horns-piano-and-girl-singer combo, take you on a jazzman’s journey through the holiday songbook and find moments of surprising pop and poignancy along the way. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m. Tickets from $29.
White Christmas, The Musical Remember Bing and Danny Kaye? “Counting My Blessings” and waiting for “Snow”? YC Performing Arts brings breathtaking life to this holiday classic spun around Irving Berlin’s immortal tunes. Thu.-Sat., Dec. 14-16, 7 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 17, 3 p.m. Tickets from $25.
The Nutcracker YC’s big-screen satellite broadcast features Tchaikovsky’s tale of a little girl’s adventure on an enchanted Christmas Eve … and nobody dances it like the Bolshoi. Monday, Dec. 18, 6 p.m. Tickets: $15 adults/$10 youth.
All events will be at Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, 1100 E. Sheldon St. For tickets or further information, please call 928-776-2000 or visit: ycpac.com.
