The Folk Sessions 11th Summer “under the stars” at the Highlands Center for Natural History opens with the popular Valley duo JC & Laney, Jim Pipkin’s “Original Americana – Sour Mash for the Soul,” and LA singer-songwriter Karen Dezelle performing in one of the most beautiful natural amphitheaters set in the Ponderosa Pines of the Central Highlands. 2016 GRAMMY Amplifier finalists, JC & Laney are an original Americana duo. They are first & foremost, established high-energy entertainers with improvised banter, signature harmonies & memorable songs that run the gamut between folk, blues, pop, rock & comedy. Their 7th and most recent CD, Hard Road to Easy Street, was first place among the finalists in the Grammy Amplifier Contest with 194,000 votes.
Jim Pipkin is “Original Americana – Sour Mash for the Soul.” His songs about American experiences travel the back roads from Tornado Alley to Music Row. His recordings have spent over 18 months in “Top 50 All Time” APD Americana/AAA Global Album Indicator. Jim has been nominated for Arizona Governor’s Arts Award by the Southwest Folk Music Assoc.
Karen Dezelle is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles who sings indie folk, with pop, alt-country, and americana influences. She has played at famed venues including SXSW, the House of Blues, The Hotel Cafeand The Bitter End. After the success of her 2013 and 2014 albums, “Lost and Found” and “Bloom, Unfold, Wither,” Dezelle set to work crafting up her latest EP, “Room For Two,” which was released August 2016.
The Folk Sessions may well be one of the most eclectic radio shows in America. Broadcast throughout Central & Northern Arizona for over 15 years on the KJAZZ Radio Network and Prescott Public Radio, part of the Arizona Community Radio Network. The Folk Sessions has established a loyal following, producing quality radio programs and live concerts.
